Installation Guide
Install the anonym.legal Chrome Extension to protect your privacy when using AI chatbots. Available via developer sideloading now, with Chrome Web Store publication in progress.
Chrome Web Store
Coming Soon: The Chrome Web Store listing is currently in progress. Once published, you will be able to install the extension with one click and receive automatic updates. In the meantime, use the developer sideload method below.
When available on the Chrome Web Store, installation will be straightforward:
- 1
Visit the Chrome Web Store listing
Search for "anonym.legal" or follow the direct link from our website.
- 2
Click "Add to Chrome"
The extension will install automatically and appear in your toolbar.
- 3
Receive automatic updates
Chrome will keep the extension updated automatically in the background.
Developer Sideload
Install the extension directly from a ZIP file. This is the current installation method while the Chrome Web Store listing is being processed.
Unzip to a Folder
Extract the ZIP file to a permanent location on your computer. Do not delete this folder after installation -- Chrome reads from it directly.
Enable Developer Mode
Open Chrome and navigate to:
chrome://extensionsToggle the Developer mode switch in the top-right corner of the page.
Load the Extension
Click the "Load unpacked" button that appears after enabling Developer mode. Select the folder where you extracted the ZIP file. The extension will appear in your toolbar.
Note for Edge users: The same steps apply in Microsoft Edge. Navigate to edge://extensions instead and enable Developer mode.
Account Setup
After installing the extension, you need to sign in with your anonym.legal account to start using it.
Click the extension icon
Find the anonym.legal icon in your browser toolbar. If it is not visible, click the puzzle piece icon to find it in the extensions menu.
Sign in with your account
Enter your anonym.legal credentials. If you do not have an account yet, you can create one at anonym.legal/auth/signup.
Enable host permissions
Enable the AI sites you want the extension to work on. See the Host Permissions section below for details.
Host Permissions
The extension uses Manifest V3 optional host permissions. This means it does not have blanket access to all websites. Instead, you must explicitly enable each AI site you want to use.
Why optional permissions?
This is a deliberate privacy decision. The extension only activates on sites you explicitly allow. It never runs in the background on other websites, never reads your browsing history, and never sends data to third parties. You are in full control of which AI platforms the extension can access.
How to enable a site:
- 1
Click the anonym.legal extension icon in your toolbar.
- 2
In the popup, you will see a list of supported AI sites with toggle switches.
- 3
Enable the sites you want to use. Chrome will ask you to confirm the permission.
- 4
Refresh the AI site page. The extension is now active on that site.
Supported AI Sites
The extension works with these AI chatbot platforms. Enable each one individually via the extension popup.
